Cherokee Nation – Pryor Child Development Center and Head Start
Located on the Cherokee Nation Reservation, within a mile of one of Google’s original data centers and at the heart of Oklahoma’s fastest-growing economic hub—MidAmerica Industrial Park—the Cherokee Nation Pryor Child Development Center and Head Start sits at the crossroads of cultural heritage and economic momentum. This 40,000sf early learning facility serves Cherokee children from birth to age 12 and is a vital investment in both the Nation’s future and the region’s development.
Twelve Child Development classrooms and four Head Start classrooms are supported by age-specific zones and seamlessly connected to outdoor learning areas. A multi-purpose FEMA-rated safe room doubles as an indoor gross motor play space, reinforcing the center’s focus on both safety and play-based learning.

The six outdoor play zones are carefully arranged to align with developmental stages, distinguished by their design rather than physical separation. Each encourages movement, imagination, and independence.
Features include:
• Turf-covered mounds and log tunnels for climbing and crawling
• Wooden play structures, trike paths, and sensory-rich elements
• Natural materials and shaded areas to promote safety and comfort
• Direct classroom access for smooth indoor-outdoor transitions
These spaces encourage active learning while supporting the physical, social, and emotional development of young children.
